Feeling Overwhelmed? Start Here: 5 Simple Questions to Find Your Season
There’s a quiet truth I’ve learned as a mum caring for young children with medically complex needs:
Balance isn’t about doing more — it’s about doing what this season asks of you.
When we try to live like we’re in summer (all growth, all hustle) but deep down we’re in winter (needing rest, healing, stillness), we create stress, guilt, and burnout.
The good news? You can recalibrate your life gently — starting with a few honest questions.
Today, I want to help you pause, breathe, and find the season you're actually in.
Not the one the world expects. Not the one you wish you were in.
The one your heart knows you’re in.
Here’s where to start:
1. What feels most true for me right now: survival, healing, or growth?
Are you just making it through the day?
Are you recovering — emotionally, physically, or mentally?
Or are you ready to expand, build, and dream again?
Knowing this changes everything.
“You don't plant seeds in winter. You let the soil rest.”
2. Where is my energy naturally flowing (or being pulled)?
Are you constantly pulled toward caregiving, advocating, or simply being present with your family?
Is work demanding most of your energy right now?
Is your mind craving creativity, but your body craving rest?
Tuning into your natural energy helps you work with yourself, not against yourself.
3. What am I grieving — even if I haven't named it yet?
Sometimes overwhelm comes because we haven’t fully honored the little (or big) losses.
A dream postponed.
Friendships changed.
A career shift.
A version of motherhood you thought you’d have.
You’re allowed to grieve even the things you chose with love. Grief needs space.
4. What boundaries would honor the season I'm in?
Saying no without guilt.
Asking for help without shame.
Taking up space for your needs.
You can be a devoted mum, a compassionate advocate, and still need fierce boundaries to stay well.
Balance isn't selfish. It's sacred.
5. What small daily rituals could support me here?
Not massive life overhauls.
Simple, doable things:
A cup of tea before anyone else wakes up.
Five minutes outside with your face in the sun.
Texting a friend who really gets it.
Choose rituals that nourish, not punish.
Final Thoughts
Your life isn’t off track.
You’re not behind.
You’re not broken.
You’re just in a season — one that deserves respect, tenderness, and your own rhythm.
And that rhythm? It’s more beautiful than any definition of balance the world could offer.
If you’re ready to turn the burnout to balance, then look at my checklist for automating the things that don't matter so you can tend to the things that support you in your season and start feeling like yourself again.
